LuxRender of glass box with GroLux lamp
A glass box (Fused silica glass) with a GroLux emissive plane above and a texture pattern below modeled with Blender. The silica glass have refraction enabled.
About 12 mins of rendering before I paused and saved.
Rendered with a Metropolis sampler with LM prob of 0.1 and max rejects of 128. For integrator I used Bidirectional path tracing with eye- and light-threshold of 0.5.

My first Metropolis sampler
Metropolis sampling is essential for physically based rendering since it's a faster way to achieve an unbiased result like normal (and painfully slow) path tracing.
I have had a hard time understanding the inner workings of Metropolis sampling so I set out to implement a simple example of it. It's taken from "A practical introduction to Metropolis Light Transport" and implemented in Java.
Here I have sampled my daughter Cornelia with 1, 32, 128 and 512 samples per pixel:
It's such a wierd and beautiful little algorithm.

I personally never thought much of this scape. The stone placement was forced, but one thing I got right was that it looks a bit bigger than it is. I miss my Chocolate gouramis =(
